About Little Bird
Established in 2023, Little Bird is a plant shop, floral studio, and community space housed in our town’s first—and only—greenhouse.
Our Greenhouse History
Built in the 1940s, the greenhouse began its life as Hillcrest Gardens, starting with a single structure. Over the decades, new greenhouses were added, and by the 1980s it had grown into a thriving operation known as The Flower Basket—a full-production greenhouse, floral business, and bustling spring garden center.
From the 1940s until 2022, these greenhouses produced more than 4,000 red geraniums every year for the local cemetery, becoming a quiet but meaningful part of the town’s seasonal rhythm.
In 2016, the owners retired and sold the property to Pleasant Ridge Waldorf School, who now graciously rent the space to us, Little Bird, allowing the legacy to continue.
Our Mission
Our mission is to share the joy and richness of growing plants of all kinds. Whether you’re hoping to grow your own food, support pollinators, fill your home with fresh air and beauty, explore tropicals or medicinal herbs, or simply take home a cute cactus, we’re here to help you grow what you love.
A Note From Sarah
Little Bird began as a dream rooted in caretaking—of plants, of spaces, and of people. When I stepped into this historic greenhouse in 2023, I found myself not only tending plants, but reviving a place that had been quiet for years and opening its doors back to the community.
Running this business has woven together my love of growing, my need for creativity, and my belief that plants make life fuller and more connected. Little Bird is intentionally small and personal: every plant watered, every bouquet arranged, every order packed is done with care and attention.
This greenhouse has been shaped by many hands—friends, growers, neighbors, and customers who have supported its revival. I’m honored to carry its long history forward and grateful every day to share this space with people who love plants as much as I do.
